Firefighters were dispatched to a Ketcham Avenue home shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, when the fire broke out in a two-story home, which was reportedly cluttered, leaving a difficult task for fire crews.
The unidentified 49-year-old woman was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Nassau University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The cause of death has not been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though it is not expected to be deemed suspicious. In total, approximately 60 firefighters from multiple Suffolk County fire departments responded to the scene to assist.
The fire was declared under control within a half hour, though crews had to contend with flare-ups and other conditions.
